Edit PDF lets you fill in a form or type on any PDF right in your browser, on a computer or a phone. If the PDF has fillable fields, it finds them and you can jump from one to the next with Tab. If it is a flat or scanned PDF, tap where you want to write and the text sits on the line. You can also tick boxes with ✓ or ✗, add the date, your signature and initials, white out what you don't need and paste a photo of your card or ID into its box. Download with no account, no payment and no watermark, and the file never leaves your device.

How to edit a PDF for free

  1. Upload your PDF

Drag it in or choose it. It opens in your browser and is never uploaded to a server. If it is a form, it tells you how many fields it found.

  2. Fill in and type

Type in the fields or tap anywhere to write. Tick boxes, add the date, your signature, initials or a photo. Everything can be moved, resized and undone.

  3. Download

One button and you're done: a final PDF with everything fixed, or with the form fields still editable. No account, no payment and no watermark.

What you can do

  • Download with no surprises

It never asks for an account, email or card at the end. There is no paid plan, no daily limit and no watermark.

  • Fillable forms

It finds the PDF's form fields and lets you type in each one. Tab moves to the next field and checkboxes take one tap.

  • Text snaps to the line

On a flat or scanned PDF, tap near a line and the text sits right on it, sized to fit the space.

  • Photo of your ID or card

Large boxes in the form are offered for a photo: it is centered and fitted without stretching.

  • Signature, initials and date

Draw your signature with your finger, take it from a photo or type it. Put initials on every page in one tap.

  • Built for phones

Toolbar at the bottom with big buttons, drag with your finger and pinch to zoom.

  • Your PDF is not uploaded

Everything happens in your browser. Nothing is stored, except your signature if you choose to remember it, and only on your device.

  • Real text

What you type becomes real PDF text that can be selected and searched, accents included.

  • Undo and redo

Ctrl+Z or the undo button to go back. Duplicate, resize or change the color (black or blue).

What people use it for

  • Credit card authorization

Fill in the details, tick the card type, sign and paste photos of the card and your ID.

  • Application forms

Forms from your bank, university, insurer or a government office that arrive as a PDF.

  • Contracts and leases

Fill in names, ID numbers and dates in the blanks, sign and initial every page.

  • Work paperwork

Personal data forms, sworn statements and HR templates.

  • School forms

Enrollment forms, field trip permissions and consent forms that need a parent's signature.

  • On your phone, in a hurry

No computer around: open the PDF you received, fill it in with your finger and send it back.

Why this one and not another PDF editor

Many PDF editors let you fill in everything and only at the end ask you for an account or a payment to download, and they upload your file to their servers. Neither happens here.

  • No wall at the end: fill it in and download. pdfFiller says on its own blog that it has no permanent free plan and that downloading depends on the free trial or a paid plan (checked in October 2026).
  • Your PDF never leaves your device. iLovePDF, Smallpdf and Adobe upload the file to their servers to process it, as they explain themselves.
  • No copy left elsewhere: iLovePDF keeps signed documents for up to 5 years and Smallpdf deletes files after one hour. Here they never reach a server.
  • No daily limit: on the free plan, Smallpdf limits how many downloads you get per day.
  • Made for real forms: detected fields, text that snaps to the lines, checkboxes and a photo of your card or ID in its box.

Frequently asked questions

How do I edit a PDF for free?

Upload the PDF on this page, tap where you want to type or fill in its fields, and download it. It is free and unlimited: no account, no payment to download and no watermark, and the file is not uploaded to any server.

How do I type on a PDF?

Choose the Text tool and tap the spot on the PDF where you want to write: a box with a cursor appears. If you tap near a line, the text sits on it and its size adjusts to the space. You can then move it, resize it or make it blue.

How do I fill out a PDF form on my phone?

Open this page in your phone's browser and upload the PDF. If the form has fields, you will see them highlighted in light blue: tap each one and type. The tools are in the bar at the bottom and you can pinch to zoom. No app needed.

How do I fill in and sign a PDF?

Fill in the fields or type on the lines, then choose Signature, create your signature (drawn with your finger, from a photo of your signature on paper, or typed) and tap the signature line: it is placed sitting on the line. Then download the PDF.

How do I add a photo of my ID or card to a PDF?

If the form has a box for a copy of the document, tap Paste photo here and choose the photo: it is centered and fitted without stretching. If there is no box, use the Photo tool and tap where you want it. The photo stays on your device.

How do I tick a box in a PDF?

If it is a fillable form, tap the box and it is checked. If it is a flat PDF, choose ✓ or ✗ and tap inside the little square: the mark centers itself in the box.

Do I need an account or to pay to download?

No, never. There is no account, no free trial, no paid plan, no download limit and no watermark. Fill in the PDF and download it.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. The PDF is opened, edited and saved in your browser. It is not uploaded or stored on any server. The only thing that can be saved is your signature, if you choose to remember it, and only on your device.

Can I change the text that is already in the PDF?

No: this tool does not modify the PDF's original text. What you can do is cover it with a white rectangle (White-out tool) and type the new text on top.

Does it stay editable afterwards?

You choose when you download. Final PDF fixes everything in place, like a printout, which is best for sending. Keep it editable keeps the form fields with what you typed, so you can correct them later in another PDF reader. Text, marks and signatures you add are fixed in both cases.

Is it a valid digital signature?

It is an image signature, like signing on paper and scanning it. It is not a certificate-based digital signature. If a process requires a certified digital signature, use the service the organization tells you to.
