Is the download at the original resolution?
Yes. The PNG has the same width and height as the photo you uploaded, up to 24 megapixels. The free version of remove.bg only gives a preview of up to 0.25 megapixels; there is no paid version here because your own browser does the work.
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. The AI model runs inside your browser with WebGPU or WebAssembly. The only download is the model itself (~88 MB) the first time, and it stays cached in your browser for the next ones.
Does it work for product photos and for people?
Yes. It works well with products on a plain background, portraits, pets, logos and objects with clear edges. Very fine hair, glass and objects the same color as the background are harder.
Why do the edges look wrong on some photos?
Because with loose hair, smoke, glass or a background the same color as the subject it is not clear where one ends and the other begins, and the model has to guess. A well-lit photo with the subject in focus and a contrasting background helps.
Can I use a white or colored background instead of transparent?
Yes. Below the result you pick transparent, white, black or any color, and download it as a PNG or a JPG. White is the background most marketplaces and ID photos ask for.
What formats does it accept and what is the limit?
PNG, JPG and WebP up to 25 MB and 24 megapixels (for example 6000×4000 px). The result downloads as a PNG with transparency, or as a JPG if you added a background.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, from the browser and without installing any app. With GPU acceleration (WebGPU) it takes a few seconds; without it, it still works but takes longer and the cutout is computed with less detail.
Which AI model does it use?
ISNet, the model from the DIS project (Dichotomous Image Segmentation, by Xuebin Qin et al., 2022), released under the Apache-2.0 license and converted to ONNX to run in the browser. It is the same model used by the open-source rembg library.
