  • Up to 4x and 16 MP

Improve the quality of a small, blurry or pixelated photo in seconds: upload the image, choose 2x or 4x, and an open-source AI model (Real-ESRGAN) enlarges it while sharpening edges and removing noise and JPEG compression blocks. It is free, needs no account and adds no watermark. It works for WhatsApp photos, images saved from the web, product photos, screenshots and AI-generated images. Output goes up to 16 megapixels (for example 4000x4000 px) and you download it as PNG or JPG. Everything is processed in your browser, so the photo never leaves your device.

How to upscale an image in 3 steps

  1. Upload your photo

Drag it in, paste it with Ctrl+V or click to choose it. PNG, JPG or WebP; it works best on small or blurry photos.

  2. Choose 2x or 4x

You will see the final size of each option. Press Enhance and the AI processes the photo piece by piece on your own device, with a progress bar.

  3. Compare and download

Drag the slider to see before and after, and download the enhanced photo as PNG or JPG.

Why this tool

  • 100% free and unlimited

No credits, no card and no pro plan. Enhance as many photos as you want.

  • No signup

No email or password. Open the page, upload and download.

  • Nothing is uploaded

The AI runs inside your browser. Your photo never leaves your device.

  • No watermark

The enhanced photo downloads clean, at full size, as PNG or JPG.

  • Open-source AI

    Uses Real-ESRGAN (realesr-general-x4v3), a BSD-3 licensed super-resolution model of about 5 MB.

  • Before and after

A slider over the same photo to see the difference before you download.

What it is for

  • WhatsApp and social media photos

Photos sent over WhatsApp or saved from Facebook are compressed: the AI removes the blocks and brings back sharpness.

  • Printing bigger

Enlarge a small photo to print it at 4x6 or 8x10 inches without visible pixels.

  • Product photos

Increase the resolution of supplier photos for your store, Amazon, eBay or Instagram.

  • Old scanned photos

Sharpen edges and reduce grain in family photos scanned at low resolution.

  • AI-generated images

Take what Gemini, ChatGPT or Midjourney gave you at 1024 px up to 2048 or 4096 px.

  • Slides and thumbnails

Sharper logos, screenshots and photos for slides, YouTube thumbnails and banners.

Why this tool and not Upscale.media or Pixelcut

Most image upscalers on Google upload your photo to their servers and limit how many you can enhance for free. Not here.

  • Upscale.media, Pixelcut and imgupscaler upload your image to their servers (they say they delete it within 24 hours); here the AI runs in your browser and the photo never leaves your device.
  • Upscale.media without an account allows 1 image per day and Pixelcut gives 3 free downloads per day; here there is no limit on photos.
  • Let's Enhance requires signup, adds a watermark on the free plan and goes up to 8 MP; here there is no account, no watermark and output goes up to 16 MP.
  • Nothing to install: it is a web page that also works on your phone.

Frequently asked questions

How do I improve the quality of a blurry photo?

Upload the photo to this page, choose 2x or 4x and press Enhance: the AI sharpens edges, removes noise and compression blocks, and gives you a larger, sharper photo. It works well on slight blur and compressed photos; if the photo is badly shaken or completely out of focus, the improvement is small.

How do I increase the resolution of an image for free?

With this tool: upload the image, choose 2x (double width and height) or 4x (four times) and download the result as PNG or JPG, free, with no signup and no watermark. Output goes up to 16 megapixels, for example 4000x4000 px.

Does it work with WhatsApp photos?

Yes, and that is where it shows the most. WhatsApp compresses photos and leaves blocks and noise; the model is trained to remove exactly that. Save the photo from the chat to your phone or computer and upload it here.

Can I use it to print large?

Yes, within limits. Good prints usually need about 300 pixels per inch: a 1000x1500 px photo upscaled 2x (2000x3000 px) is enough for roughly 7x10 inches. The AI sharpens edges but does not create real detail, so up close an enlargement never looks like a photo taken at high resolution.

What can it not fix?

It does not restore very small or badly damaged faces, it does not fix heavily shaken or completely out-of-focus photos, and it does not invent details that are not there, such as unreadable text or the features of a pixelated face. In those cases the result can look smooth or painted. It also does not remove scratches or stains from old photos.

Does it add a watermark?

No. The enhanced photo downloads clean and at full size, with no watermark, no payment and no account.

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. The AI model runs inside your browser with WebGPU or WebAssembly, and the photo never leaves your device. The only download is the model, about 5 MB, the first time; it stays saved in the browser for next time.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes, from the browser and without installing an app. With GPU acceleration (WebGPU, in recent Chrome for Android) it takes seconds; without a GPU it still works but is slow, which is why smaller photos are accepted on phones. On a computer it is much faster.

Which AI model does it use?

Real-ESRGAN, in its general version realesr-general-x4v3 (Xintao Wang et al., 2021), BSD-3 licensed and converted to ONNX to run in the browser with ONNX Runtime Web. It upscales 4x and removes noise and compression artifacts; the 2x option is that same result scaled down by half, which comes out sharper than upscaling 2x directly.
