Many forms and email providers have file size limits: 2 MB, 5 MB, 10 MB. If your PDF is too large, this tool compresses it in your browser by reducing the resolution and quality of the images it contains. The file never leaves your device. Works especially well with scanned documents and PDFs with photos, which are the ones that weigh the most.

How does it work?

  1. Open your PDF

Drop or choose the file. It opens in your browser with pdf.js — nothing is uploaded.

  2. Pick a level

Low compression keeps the quality; high compression gives the smallest file.

  3. Page by page

Each page is rendered as a JPEG image at the chosen level and packed into a new PDF.

  4. Download the result

Compare the size before and after and download the compressed PDF.

Features

  • Three compression levels

Choose from low (144 dpi), medium (108 dpi) or high (72 dpi) to suit your needs.

  • Great for scanned PDFs

Scanned documents and image-heavy files shrink dramatically without losing readability.

  • No page limit

    Compress a 1-page or a 500-page PDF, no restrictions.

  • Free, no signup

No accounts, no watermarks, unlimited uses.

Use cases

  • Email attachments

Shrink a heavy PDF so it doesn't bounce (Gmail allows up to 25 MB).

  • Upload to platforms

Many online forms and academic portals cap the PDF size.

Send lighter documents on WhatsApp or Telegram without losing content.

  • Archive documents

Save disk space by compressing scanned receipts, invoices or contracts.

How is it different?

Most online tools upload your PDF to their servers, cap the file size or require signup. Here everything runs in your browser.

  • vs iLovePDF / Smallpdf: Here the PDF is never uploaded — everything runs in your browser. Free, unlimited, no signup.
  • vs manual recompression: The compressor picks the optimal JPEG quality per level and rebuilds the PDF automatically.

Frequently asked questions

Is there quality loss?

At low compression the loss is minimal (144 dpi). At high, text in images may look pixelated. For text-only PDFs the reduction will be small because text already takes little space.

Can I search text in the compressed PDF?

No. Compression converts each page into a JPEG image. If you need searchable text, use our OCR tool.

Does it work with password-protected PDFs?

No. If the PDF requires a password, first use our Unlock PDF tool, then compress it.

Is there a file size limit?

Up to 200 MB. Larger PDFs may slow down the browser.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. The entire process runs in your browser (JavaScript + WebAssembly). The PDF never leaves your device.
